Bitewing radiographs are intraoral exams that capture the crowns of both upper and lower teeth on the same side simultaneously. They are highly useful for both children and adults as they reveal caries or alveolar bone loss that may not be detectable during a clinical exam. The procedure is performed in a seated position and lasts 1–2 seconds.
